Who, what, why, since when, how, where is Sascha Rheker?

I'm a professional photographer based in Germany.

I'm doing this for more than 25 years. Without being bored for even one second.

I'm driven by curiosity regarding almost all the things that humans do, and I love telling all those stories with my photographs. Especially in all things that define a persons identity and all the things people do to create or define their own identity.

I really love that people can take the time to wander around in the moment frozen in a photograph and that they can relate to a person in a portrait as if they had really met them.

I'm fascinated by photography as a technical medium, even though I know it's only a means to an end. But as you can't tell a story, if you are lost for words, having and mastering a broad range of tools and techniques from the low-tech Holga to high-end lighting setups enlarges my vocabulary as a photographer. I began working as a photographer during my studies in medicine and political science, with my first picture published in Stern Magazine in 2001.

I'm an appointed member of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Photography (DGPh), being represented by Visum Images.

Over the years the journalistic part of my work has been published in various national and international media outlets.
